Square Enix's HD-2D-themed games have gotten a lot of positive appreciation from gamers. Titles like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy have really captured the attention of nostalgic gamers because of their unique art style.
In a new interview on 4Gamer (translated via Nintendo Everything), Triangle Strategy producer Tomoya Asano talked about the design style and how it's going to be implemented in future games by the company. As the interviewer expressed dismay by the fact that a lot of indie games haven't begun to follow the same style, Asano revealed the reason the reason is because it's expensive!
"It's definitely worth noting that it's more expensive than you'd imagine. In this regard, it's an excellent fit for the games coming from Square Enix cheap diablo 2 resurrected items. There's probably nothing to gain from the other companies that are copying it," Asano told 4gamer. Fortunately, that cost isn't stopping Square Enix from releasing more games with this design.
